Oxwall 1.8 is out!

Oxwall 1.8 is available for download immediately.

This is an important release which delivers several big things we’ve been working on. All details can be found in our beta highlight (complete changelog can be found here). We hope you’ll like what Oxwall 1.8 offers as much as we loved building it. You are now heartily invited to explore this release and offer your feedback, so we start making educated plans for our new development sprint.

Important for users: If you are running Oxwall of any previous version, you are encouraged to wait until the auto-update prompt appears in your admin area. Before you attempt it, make sure to:

  • Back up your website. Seriously, folks, better safe than sorry;
  • Run the platform update first, only after that run all available plugin updates;
  • Run theme update also only after the platform update.

If you don’t want to perform the update yourself, check companies and contractors specializing in Oxwall support.

Important for theme designers: With this release we change the attribution link images. Now instead of 4, there are only 2. You need to change your themes to reflect that. The new images are on the attribution page.

Thanks,
Oxwall team.

  2. Hello Oxwall developers
    I have now installed the new version 1.8, had to or from 1.7.5 to upgrade to 1.8. That worked very well in the back and I like now the new default theme, which you have developed. Da me but would be Occupiers Oxwall. Therefore, I can only say: Keep it up!

  3. Well well well…

    I would say that I was expecting other things in this new platform…
    A little bit disappointed because I didn’t see to many differences apart from the admin panel:

    – the letters are almost the color of the admin background;
    – some plugins are not compatible with the admin panel;
    – the only change was actually made was only in the admin panel;
    – I didn’t see a big difference in the plugins update;
    – the photo plugin update gives a error on databese, it needs to be done manualy and some people don’t know how to do it;
    – the only thing that works perfect now is the forum

    I actually restored for the previous version and update all the plugins except the photo one…
    🙁 sorry guys.. i was expect something more…
    but that ok…

    • Hi, thank you for your feedback. Yes, as we announced the release contains the new theme and many improvements for the admin panel. As for the problems you faced, please report them in the forums.

    • Hello. Sorry to hear about the problem with your website. Did you backup your system before the upgrade, as we always suggest? You could then restore the site from the backup and then work out through the problems in the forum. Oxwall doesn’t have paid support, so it’s unproductive to wait for somebody else to fix your site.

  5. I upgraded to the new version and now everyone who tries to view my site on the mobile phone can no longer adjust the screen size. It starts off way to big and there is no way to pinch the screen to adjust it any more, unless I use oxwal’s theme template then it works fine, but to use another theme it wont work. So I guess I will have to wait for the person who I bought the theme from to make their theme work for oxwall, yeah I love waiting forever on a fix that may or may not come.

    • Please be advised that it is up to 3rd party designers to keep their themes up to date. We announce beta releases to ensure compatibility one week before the release.

  6. WOW,

    If we can talk about improvements than this is the time to do so. I don’t really have negative feedback. It is still opensource and working with many 3rd party plugins from more than 10 different developers. You can expect that at least 1 thing breaks.

    It is so important that before you update:

    1. BACKUP ALL DATA AND DATABASE
    2. Check Database MYSQL version
    3. Check PHP version
    4. check all plugins used at this same moment if they even support the latest version. If not either disable them and mail the developer. Or, hire a developer and fix it along the way
    5. Some plugins are not updated anymore. Try to hire a developer who can update them according the latest version of Oxwall. So you can activate them again.

    I see so many people just HIT the update button without dig into all the actual plugins and systems they have running. It all needs to work together. So if you have even 1 thing that is outdated the change of all things not working is very high.

    Again Great work and effort! Gotta love the Oxwall system.
