CSV import for Oxwall

While Oxwall 1.6 development is humming along nicely, we never stop making other, less noticed but very useful things for the community. Earlier we released a CSV user data import plugin. Here it goes: http://www.oxwall.org/store/item/718

It does what it says — lets you import your user accounts from other databases to restart your community on Oxwall. It doesn’t import other content like blogs, photos, etc, but attempts to bring all critical user profile data into the new place.

People always asked for such a tool, so we tried to make it as useful and easy to use as possible. Feel free to try it out. This is version 1.0, so we are listening to your feedback, and of course, problem reports.

Thanks,
Emil

    • I hear a lot on here about people waiting for Oxwall to roll out a “mobile version” of the platform. I think a lot of what is going to make a site “mobile” friendly is simply adding media break points to the theme’s css. I’m here to tell everybody that it’s not that hard to do relative to many other things.

Run a google search on “media breakpoints” or “responsive css design” and you’ll find scores of simple tutorials explaining how to get this done. Oxwall’s theme css is totally accessible and easy to add on to.

Even if you’re just adding one major breakpoint at less then 800px to target users who are obviously not on a desktop computer and using percentages in column widths, that can go a long way to making your site, (any site), more mobile friendly.

So, if you can’t wait any longer for 1.6, take things into your own hands and give this a shot in the interim.

In the meantime I’m very happy to see them releasing useful tools like CSV import, which on the whole, is a heck of a lot more complicated for the average user to create themselves.

  1. I think this CVS tool will be very useful, especially for ning or spruz members, however, I do not think spruz, grou.ps will be supported, however wall.fm and ning probably will. 🙂

  2. We are seeing dozens of comments like “when will 1.6 be released?” for this post. Sorry, guys, these will not be approved, since they don’t belong here and hijack the topic.
